Change in Tagline:

 

Suria originally used the tagline, "Suria, Sinaran Hidup Anda" which means Suria, Shine in Your Life. This allows for the inherent prompt in the audience that tells them that Channel Suria is an important part of their life.

2006/2008 Report

  1. Proper usage of malay language:
    There is a need to ensure the proper usage of malay language in media as it is a representation of the image of the stations.

  2. More community based programs:
    Suria could offer more community-based programs that would promote the local arts scene. For example, there could be programs showcasing events conducted by Malay organisations and university students as well as Arts shows held at the Esplanade.

  3. Current affairs programs:
    Current affairs programs, while not a popular choice are important ways to convey meesages to the community. As such, Suria has a social responsibility to ensure that Current Affairs programmes are made as appealing and accessible as possible, in order to attract more and retain existing viewers. 

  4. Programs for elderly:
    Suria should not neglect the older generations, and should consider programs showcasing traditional music.

Later, it changed to "Semakin Bersinar" which means Shining Even Brighter. This emphasises Suria's continuous big role in the audience's lives, and the channel's desire to be the heartbeat of the Malay community.

It then changed to a new tagline in 2008 "Suria, Sinar Bersama Anda" which means Suria, Shines With You. With a multicultural and international feel, Suria not only reflects the affluent, educated and new breed of the Singapore Malay, but it also provides a window for those who wish to understand the Malay community.

2008/2010 Report

  1. Explore concepts that would appeal to the younger generation:
    Current Affairs programs should be fine tuned to remain relevant to the younger audiences.

  2. Concern over the use of dramatisation in advertisements:
    The advertisements on Suria promoting pawnshops may not be suitable as there are people who may be struggling to balance their finances.

  3. Language standards:
    There is a need for proper usage of Malay, despite the attempt to appeal to its young listeners by speaking in English.

  4. Quality local dramas:
    Suria and the local production houses have been doing a good job in producing high quality dramas, however Suria needs to be sensitve to their older viewers.

2010/2012 Report

  1. More success stories in dramas:

    Dramas should highlight more on the positive aspects of the community and that much research needs to be done for the drama to be a potential educational tool for the community. 

  2. Current affairs and info educational programs:
    Current affairs program are scheduled at a less accessible time, in which many are unable to make it. Additionally, it is suggested that Suria consider scheduling the repeat telecast at an earlier timeslot on the weekends.

  3. Maintaining the standards of malay language:
    Coining the titles of Malay programms with borrowed words from English may be hig and trendy. Doing so, however, can also lead to the loss of the original words.

These targets were set by the Malay Programmes Advisory Committee (MPAC) under Media Development Authority (MDA).
