Programmes 

As Suria is the only Malay-Muslim television channel in Singapore, it strives to create a platform for locally produced programmes and at the same time, meet the taste and demands of its viewers. The programmes shown on Suria includes a mixture locally and regionally (Malaysia and Indonesia) produced dramas, movies, info-education, variety and talk shows. Currently, Suria's programme transmission on weekdays and Saturdays are from 3.00pm to 12.00 am. For Sundays, its programme airtime runs from 10.00am to 12.00am. 

 
Walimah
 

 

A drama/comedy series produced in 2014 that carries on the tradition of exploring stories and issues faced by married couples in their 1st to 9th year of marriage, and what they can do to overcome their problems. Presented in a light-hearted manner, the series will shed light on the stories of the couples attending the ceremony, and flashback to the events that lead up and unite them all to this one fateful day.

 

Jeritan Sepi (Silent Cry)
 

 

A drama that raves good reviews from the Suria viewers. Its first two sequels in the early 2000s storylines a family that faces various difficulties such as having mentally retarded family member, premarital pregnancy and issues of family planning. Its third sequel in 2008 revolves around the deterioration of family morals and social ignorance towards the elderly.

Erlin Montel (Chubby Erlin)

 

 

Obesity is another common problem among people in Malay community. Erlin Montel is a comedy drama in 2008 about a woman that is overweight and her attempts to change her unhealthy lifestyle. The drama was successful in conveying its purpose to its viewers with the concept of fun and humour.

Cinta Bollywood (Bollywood Love)
 

 

A love drama about a girl’s fascination with Bollywood superstar, Shah Rukh Khan. It was aired for two seasons in 2001 and 2002. 

Di Luar Garisan (Out of the Line)
 

 

A crime investigation themed drama, aired in 2013, involving the police force and a blogger that intervenes in these police cases.

Local Dramas

The genres of local produced dramas shown on Suria were mostly conveying the essences of family, love and social issues faced by the Malay community.

Nevertheless, Suria also ventured into other interesting genre dramas. These dramas gave Suria viewers a fresher alternative and a spectrum of choices to cater to every viewer’s preferences. Apart from that, it keeps Suria on par with dramas produced from Malaysia and Indonesia.

Imported Dramas

Suria shows a fair share of Singaporean produced and regionally, generally Malaysian produced dramas. As observed from Suria’s television guide, Mondays and Wednesdays nights are platforms for locally produced dramas and rest of the nights are for regionally produced ones. Fridays nights were intended for showing telemovies or movies from the region. Suria variates its programmes by inserting regional ones to give its viewers a different viewing experience such as dramas about the village life or something beyond the conventional Singaporean context. 

Variety

These information-education, variety shows and talk shows are aimed at educating, providing knowledge to the Suria viewers as well as inserting elements of fun entertainment in its list of programmes.

Te:RaSeh! 
 

 

A variety game show aired in 2013 where Suria artists battled against each other weekly to raise funds for their various beneficiaries. It uses interactive media such as Instagram in which viewers can vote for the artist that they wish to participate in a segment, the Final Face-Off and inserting the element of radio into the show adds a new and unique experience for its audiences. The show was popular among the Suria viewers that it had its second season the following year, Te:RaSeh! 2.0 in which the battle was against the male and females artists.

Rudy and Rilla
 

 

A talk show that has been running since 2011 for four seasons. The show has become a household name in highlighting the social issues faced by the Malay Muslim community. The viewership of the show has been encouraging with a stronger audience engagement and participation through its social media platforms. The responses have been very inspiring as the community has become more receptive and willing to share their laments and opinions with the rest of the community.

News and Current Affairs

Berita (News) was telecasted live from Geylang Serai on 6 July 2014, in conjunction to the Hari Raya Puasa’s opening light up. This was the second time that Berita was telecasted outside from its Mediacorp studios.

Collaborations

Suria constantly tied up with productions and artists from neighbouring countries like Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei to tighten its relationship with these countries through the medium of arts and venture into achieving a bigger objective.

Muzika Ekstravanganza
 

 

Music variety shows such as Muzika Ekstravanganza, a collaboration between Suria Mediacorp and Radio Television Malaysia and Rapsodi Fiesta, a collaboration between Suria Mediacorp and Radio Television Brunei where artists from both countries performed together on the same stage. It is a night of celebrating and integrating music from both countries and each year, the venues of these music variety shows alternate depending the agreement of both countries.

Anugerah Planet Muzik (APM)
 

 

A star-studded awards show that honour the best and the most popular talents in the region’s Malay music industry. This year is its 13th instalment. APM is jointly organized by Mediacorp Malay Broadcast Division, Suria, Warna 94.2FM and Ria 89.7FM. The award show contested 19 various categories and would be shown on Official TV broadcasters Mediacorp Suria (Singapore), Astro Ria (Malaysia and Brunei) and NET (Indonesia) as well as Mediacorp radio stations, Ria 89.7FM and Warna 94.2FM.

Kasih Berbisik (Whispers of the Heart)
 

 

A 13 episodes drama, jointly produced by MediaCorp Eaglevision and Primeworks Studios in 2014. The drama set against a backdrop of Singapore, Malaysia and Bali and involves a star-studded cast from these three countries. The collaboration is aimed at producing a high-quality drama series that appeal to audiences in Singapore and Malaysia and leverages on both parties’ expertise in High-Definition (HD) TV production. It debuts for the first time simultaneously on TV3 and Suria on the same day.

Gol & Gincu (Goalpost and Lipsticks)

 

 

 

A Malayisan TV series and a sequel to the 2005 film of the same title, looks upon the affairs of the all-female futsal team "Bukan Team Biasa" (Not an Ordinary Team). It ran for 2 seasons and its first season was aired on Suria from 26 December 2006 till 20 March 2007.

Nur Kasih the Movie (Light of Love)
 

 

A romance film that premiered on May 19, 2011 in Malaysia. It is the continuation of the story of Adam (Remy Ishak), Aidil (Fizz Fairuz) and Nur Amina (Tiz Zaqyah) from television series. The TV series became a phenomenon in the region in which the movie was highly anticipated by many. The film also featured Singaporean director, Faisal Ishak. Nur Kasih the movie was aired on Suria on 3 Auguest 2012. 

Pangako Sayo (My Promise to You)

 

 

 

A Filipino primetime soap opera series produced and broadcast by the Philippine media network ABS-CBN. It is dubbed the first "teleserye" on Philippine television. It starred Kristine Hermosa and Jericho Rosales. The soap, which ran from 2000 to 2002, spanned 476 episodes. It was first shown on Suria in 2007. It aired in Tegalog with Bahasa Melayu subtitles and was popular with the Suria audiences. 

Pernikahan Dini (Dini's Wedding)

 

 

 

An Indonesian soap opera that aired on RCTI in 2001. It starred Agnes Monica and Shahrul Gunawan and produced by Prima Entertainment. The drama series ran for 78 episodes and was aired in 2003. It was well-received by many of Suria viewers, especially among the youths back then. 

 

SG Mania 

 

 

 

SG Mania aired in 2014, is a live telecasted singing competition. It celebrates the best vocals along with the best works of Singapores very own music composers and lyricists through the years. The show pays tribute to our song composers who have contributed to the vibrant music industry. Hosted by Fauzie Laily and Huda Ali, it features local singers like Sarah Aqilah, Iskandar Ismail and Sufie Rashid. The show raved lots of support from the Suria audiences that it became hit and even popularized the singers in the competition.
